SUNSHINE STATE VENTURE CHALLENGE

Eligibility

Business Plans developed by students enrolled full or part time during the 2007-08 or 2008-09 academic years at U.S. News listed Colleges and Universities in Florida are eligible.

Entries must be the original work of the entrants and may be entered by a single student or multi-student team. The business plan must be for a seed, start-up, or early stage venture and must address the entire business concept. Teams that have already secured arrangements for capital from any source, including loans, grants, or outside investment, must disclose the amounts and sources clearly in their entries. Resources from these sources must not have exceeded $200,000 as of May 1, 2008. Further, revenue generated by the proposed venture must not have exceeded $20,000 as of May 1, 2008. Entries must be received by 12:00 midnight on Thursday, September 25th via email to katharine.burks@cba.ufl.edu. Please contact the Organizing Committee by emailing the University of Florida CEI at the above address.

There are two independently judged tracks in the competition, one for Investment Intensive Plans (e.g., those that would require a significant amount of investment) and another for Limited Investment Plans (e.g., those that could launch and grow successfully based on revenue, personal funds, loans, or a single angel investor). Faculty members from each school may nominate one team per track – two teams total. Self nominations are not permitted. The Judging Panel reserves the right to disqualify any entry that in its judgment violates the spirit of the Competition guidelines.

Each participating team/school will be responsible for costs associated with travel and accommodations.

All contestants are expected to compete with integrity and shall not
knowingly deceive judges or members of the selection committee. All
presented material shall be offered as an accurate representation of
your knowledge and expectations, and shall not contain false or
misleading statements. Contestants who violate this expectation of
integrity are subject to disqualification and revocation of awards.
